Biome Privacy Policy
Effective Date: June 7, 2026
Who We Are
Biome is a mobile application and related website operated by KindnessMatters Inc. In this Privacy Policy, “Biome,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to KindnessMatters Inc. and the Biome application, website, and services.
Biome was originally operated by JoinBiome, Inc. After JoinBiome, Inc. dissolved, the Biome application and related assets were transferred to KindnessMatters Inc. KindnessMatters Inc. is now responsible for operating Biome and protecting user information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
Privacy
Biome is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, how we share it, and the choices you have. Personal information is used to operate Biome, provide the services requested by users, maintain safety and security, improve the app, and comply with applicable legal obligations.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the updated policy on this page and update the effective date. Your continued use of Biome after changes are posted means you accept the updated Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please stop using Biome.
Information We Collect
When you register for an account, we may collect information such as your name, username, email address, password or authentication information, and other information you provide during account sign-up or when contacting us.
We may collect optional profile details such as profile picture, bio, location, interests, and other information you choose to share. We also collect content you create or upload, including posts, comments, map pins, images, videos, checklists, and other user-generated content.
We may collect usage and technical information such as device type, operating system, app version, IP address, approximate location derived from device or network information, crash logs, diagnostic information, and actions taken within the app. If you choose to use map or location-based features, Biome may collect location information you provide or choose to associate with your posts, maps, or content.
We may collect communications you send to us, including email inquiries, support requests, reports, and feedback.
How We Use Information
We use personal information to create and manage accounts, provide and operate Biome, display user content, support social and map-based features, respond to support requests, maintain app safety, prevent misuse, debug and improve the service, analyze app performance, and comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell users’ personal information. We do not use personal information for third-party behavioral advertising unless we provide appropriate notice and obtain any consent required by applicable law or app-store rules.
How We Share Information
We may share information when necessary to operate Biome, including with service providers that help us host the app, store data, process images or videos, send emails or notifications, analyze performance, provide customer support, or maintain security. These service providers may only use information as needed to provide services to us.
We may disclose information if required by law, court order, subpoena, legal process, or government request; to protect the rights, safety, and security of Biome, our users, or others; to investigate potential violations of our terms or policies; or with your consent.
In connection with the transfer from JoinBiome, Inc. to KindnessMatters Inc., user information and related app records may have been transferred as part of the Biome application and service assets. If Biome is involved in a future merger, acquisition, reorganization, or transfer of assets, user information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Privacy Policy or a policy with substantially similar protections.
Content Visibility and Distribution
Biome is a social app. Newly created Moments are visible to the user's Circle by default. Users may optionally allow Biome to review a Moment for possible promotion to the Community feed.
If a user allows Community promotion, Biome may review the Moment and, if approved, make it visible to other Biome users through Community feeds, recommendations, discovery features, or similar areas of the service. Community visibility and placement are not guaranteed.
If a user does not allow Community promotion, Biome will not intentionally promote that Moment beyond its original Circle audience, except as necessary to operate, secure, moderate, enforce our policies, or comply with legal obligations.
Biome may limit, organize, rank, moderate, remove, hide, or feature content to maintain community quality, safety, and app integrity. Posting content does not guarantee Community distribution.
Your Choices and Account Deletion
You may update certain account or profile information within the app. You may also request help by contacting us at biome.help@gmail.com.
If Biome allows users to create accounts, users must be able to initiate account deletion from within the app. You may also request deletion by contacting us at biome.help@gmail.com. When an account is deleted, we will delete or de-identify personal information associated with the account unless we are required or permitted to retain certain information for legal, safety, fraud-prevention, security, backup, or legitimate business purposes.
Data Retention
We keep personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide Biome, operate and improve the app, resolve disputes, enforce our policies, maintain security, comply with legal obligations, and support legitimate operational needs. We may retain backups for a limited period before deletion is completed from backup systems.
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect user information. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, and you use Biome at your own risk.
Access to personal information is limited to authorized personnel and service providers who need access to operate, support, secure, or improve Biome.
Children’s Privacy
Biome is not intended for children under 13 years of age, and we do not knowingly collect or store personal information from anyone under 13. If you are under 13, please do not use Biome or provide any personal information to us.
If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without verified parental consent, we will take steps to delete the account and associated personal information in accordance with applicable laws, including the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
Users between the ages of 13 and 17 may use Biome only with permission and supervision of a parent or legal guardian. By using Biome, you represent that you meet these age requirements.
If you believe that a child under 13 may have created an account on Biome, please contact us at biome.help@gmail.com.
